The Domesday Book, Lincoln Castle

For any guests staying in our self catering holiday lodges this weekend – don’t miss your last opportunity to see The Domesday Book at Lincoln Castle. One of the most iconic documents in British history is on display in Lincoln Castle’s Magna Carta Vault in a rare appearance outside of London – part of the Battles & Dynasties exhibition – on display until Sunday 3rd September.

Lincoln Castle is so stunning and well worth a visit – built by William the Conqueror in 1068, Lincoln Castle has stood for hundreds of years as a symbol of power and seat of justice.  Since 2010 we have been revealing its hidden history in a £22m restoration.

Come and explore the all-new Lincoln Castle.  Scale the heights of the Medieval Wall Walk, follow in the footsteps of prisoners in the Victorian Prison, and immerse yourself in the Magna Carta story.

Discover 1000 years of history – where it happened.

Now, visitors can walk the full circumference of the wall for the first time.  An impressive third of a mile long, the Medieval Wall Walk is a journey through the history of Lincoln and a vantage point for spectacular views across this beautiful city and surrounding countryside.  There is no finer view of Lincoln Cathedral than that from the castle’s east wall battlements, which look onto the Cathedral’s majestic West Front and soaring spires. You can also have a tour around the Victorian Prison, with three floors of restored and recreated cells spread over separate male and female wings, interactive interpretation, and a Discovery Centre with hands-on activities for families, the Victorian Prison is a unique and fascinating experience.  More recently the prison has been used as a filming location for TV series such as Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife.
