Barn Owls and Kestrels

Local lady came to do annual bird ringing on the farm – bird ringing is a technique used in the study of wild birds, by attaching a small individual numbered metal or plastic tag to their legs or wings.  We were delighted to find one Barn Owl chick in a new box we put up only last year (Barn Owls chicks are thought to be down by 70% this year following the cold spring). We also found 4 Kestrel chicks in a nest above my office.
