The fishing at Rural Roosts has got off to a great start for the first half of the year.
On the lodge lake we have seen a good mix of bream, tench, carp (mirror and common) and roach.
The carp on the reservoir have been feeding well and are proving a good catch / fight for the more serious carp angler, with catches up to 22lb so far this year.
Fishermen/women can enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds of the amazing wildlife as they sit fishing peacefully at both lakes. Kingfishers have been spotted again earlier this year on the lodge lake, and one fisherman reported seeing a Bittern on the reservoir (captured on a photo), quite rare for this area.
We have a returning guest who enjoys blogging his fishing adventures, here at Rural Roosts as well as other lakes, please feel free to check out his stories on YouTube ‘Cookies Fishing Capers’
We have landing nets and unhooking mats for guests to use during their stay, and each lodge has a shed for guests to store their fishing equipment.
The nearest tackle shop for all your bait / fishing supplies whilst staying at Rural Roosts, is just over a mile away – Short Ferry Angling, also a great pub here for a local meal out – Tyrwhitt Arms
We leave ‘catch cards’ in the lodges for guests to note down their catches, here are some of the latest cards and guest photos…

| Review title | Another lovely stay |
| Review | This was our 3rd stay at rural roosts, 2nd stay in badger Lodge. As always, the lodge was immaculately clean. Lovely lemon drizzle cake waiting for us on our arrival (we bought another from the roost shop to bring home!). My partner again enjoyed the fishing – a 10lb carp from the lodge lake and several 9 to 12lb carp from the reservoir. While we were there another gent got a 20lb carp next to us. Incredibly peaceful and calm, it’s a lovely spot and we’ll be coming again next year. |
