-Maintenance works over the winter months-

Some of our regular guests may notice some significant changes to the lodge site – as you will see when you visit, we have been doing lots of maintenance work over the quieter months.

The back bank at the far end of the lake has been re-enforced, protecting the lodge site against the flooding we have experienced on the farm over the past few years. As well as re-enforcing the bank, we have made possible for guests to walk all the way round the lake, and those wishing to fish will now be able to do so from the far end bank. The banks have been seeded with grass and we are looking forward to them greening up, we intend to plant some trees behind the bank to provide more shelter and protection. We also plan to put several perches around the lake to encourage the beautiful kingfishers to do a spot of fishing on the lake too!

Several of the willow trees round the lake have been pruned, this helps build a strong branch structure and these will soon start to grow back in the springtime.

The bridge has been removed as this was becoming a little unstable, we don’t have any plans to replace this at present now guests can walk right round the lake.

We have tidied the area at the entrance to the lodge site, letting more light in, especially to Barn Owl Cottage. You may also notice some of the dykes have been cleared, this allow free drainage from the surrounding fields.

There have been several trees felled in the Woodland Walk area, this is an ongoing project to allow more light in and for the stronger trees to have more room to flourish. Some new trees have been planted in the Woodland dog run area.

At the reservoir we have put in a new track to enable guests wishing to fish at the far end, to be able to drive to take their tackle, there is parking for 2-3 cars. We do ask that guests please keep to the track and to please avoid driving on the grass. There is also the usual car park at the reservoir, so guests can drop off their tackle and park there if there isn’t enough room at the far end.

We strive to keep Rural Roosts in great shape,  creating a tranquil haven for our guests to relax and recharge.
