Fishing this Spring

We’ve had a lovely few weeks of sunshine here at Rural Roosts, the warmer waters encouraging the fish to feed more, making for some wonderful fishing both on the lodge lake and reservoir. With Spring well and truly underway, things are certainly beginning to green up around the farm, and there is an abundance of wildlife that you may be able to spot whilst enjoying a relaxing morning by the lakeside. We have received some lovely reports from guests recently, commenting on the quality of the fishing and the condition of the fish, with plenty of mirror and common carp, bream, tench and perch in our two fishing lakes. We include ‘catch cards’ in each lodge for guests to record their catches during their stay, and share on the notice board in the roost. We have included some recent testimonials and catch cards below…

“Wonderful stay in Kingfisher Lodge. The lodge is immaculate and has everything you could need for your stay. The area looked lovely with spring flowers and blossom on many trees. We fished the reservoir and got three lovely fish out, biggest 13.9lb. The wildlife is amazing and we were lucky enough to see a deer very close up, rabbits, geese and ducks sitting on eggs…”

“Had a wonderful short break at Rural Roosts again, we were lucky with the weather and the fishing was awesome, caught on every session. Common Carp to 11lb and Mirror Carp to 9lb all in magnificent condition and full of fight. Will be back again in April can’t wait”

“My husband and I enjoy fishing and can highly reccomend the fishing experience. The lodge lake holds a good variety of good carp, bream, tench and roach. This visit we fished the reservoir as we like the challenge of catching bigger carp and we were not disappointed. Two fish just over 20lb, one 19.10, one 15lb exactly and in total 57 fish.”

We are lucky to have a fishing tackle shop just 1 mile from the lodge site at Short Ferry, for all the supplies you may need during your stay. Click the link here to head to the Short Ferry Angling website. Each lodge has a garden shed, perfect for storing your fishing gear, and we provide landing nets and unhooking matts (please note, we do not provide landing poles, you will need to bring your own.) Both the lodge lake and the reservoir (our specimen carp lake) are exclusive for the use of Rural Roosts guests, making for a very peaceful fishing experience. If you have any questions regarding the fishing here at Rural Roosts, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we are happy to help!
